WADA & CHINADA spread the value of Clean Sport in Shanghai Fudan University

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), together with China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA), attended the activity of “Play True, One Team--Dialogue with WADA President Witold Bańka” in Fudan University in Shanghai on 20 September.

Commissioned and supported by CHINADA and co-organized by Fudan University, the activity was pleased to invite Witold Bańka, President of WADA, Yang Yang, Vice President of WADA, Olivier Niggli, Director General of WADA, and Li Zhiquan, Director General of CHINADA to present, discussing the issues of honesty, morality, respect for rules and laws, role models and play true in anti-doping work.

In his keynote speech, Bańka emphasized on education’s important role in the increasingly complex anti-doping situation. He also expressed his gratitude for China’s contribution to anti-doping cause. “We will not complete our work and achieve our goals without stakeholders’ collaboration,” Bańka said.

As a former athlete, now an anti-doping officer, Yang Yang hoped that the activity let participants know about WADA and its mission and vision. “I believe that all the athletes yearn to become a respected champion and a true competitor since childhood,” Yang said, “To protect the original aspirations of these athletes, so that they can realize their dreams along the way with the value of clean sport, this is the meaning of anti-doping education.” She also expressed her enthusiasm and expectation for the students and professional athletes attending the event.

After introducing WADA’s history, Olivier Niggli mentioned “testing, investigation, and education” as the three pillar to promote anti-doping cause. “Education is the long-term solution to the anti-doping related problems,” Niggli said.

Li Zhiquan introduced basic knowledge about doping to students, and instilled the spirit of sport and the value of clean sport. He also showed how CHINA spared no efforts to achieve the goals of “zero occurrence” of doping in major events. Furthermore, he also emphasized on the importance of international collaboration. “China will continue to actively participate in international affairs, and contribute more Chinese wisdom and experience to the development of anti-doping work all over the world,” Li said.

Wu Jingyu, taekwondo champion in 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics, and Wang Yu, Chinese famous male high jumper who won gold medals in 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and many other events, shared their feelings about anti-doping from the point of athletes. “WADA’s contribution convinces us that our play field is clean and fair,” Wu said. “As an athlete, it’s important to learn and grasp anti-doping code, especially how to prevent unintentional anti-doping rule violations. There is no shortcut to success,” Wang said.

This activity attracted over 400 participants, some of whom actively interacted with distinguished guests and asked questions about anti-doping and clean sport.

CHINADA will continue to spread the value of clean sport as well as share Chinese wisdom and experience for anti-doping cause on the 3rd CHINADA International Anti-Doping Symposium on 24-25 September in Hangzhou, the city where 2022 Asian Games to be held, with the theme of “Reinforce Governance Capability of NADOs”.
