CHINADA Ensures Fair Play at Chengdu World Games

2025-08-19

The China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) successfully implemented the anti-doping program to help athletes stay clean at the Chengdu World Games. This was the first edition of the World Games held in Chinese mainland, with nearly 4,000 athletes from over 110 countries and regions participating.

The anti-doping program for this event was a collaborative effort by the International World Games Association (IWGA), the Chengdu World Games Organizing Committee, the International Testing Agency (ITA) and CHINADA. This program implemented an efficient model of “international standards coupled with local implementation”, ensuring a fair play environment for all athletes.

Authorized by the IWGA and the Chengdu World Games Organizing Committee to serve as the Sample Collection Authority, CHINADA implemented all procedures in strict compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, the International Standard for Testing and Investigations (ISTI), and the Doping Control Guidelines for this event.

Considering that many participating athletes had not received extensive education and testing before, CHINADA focused on pre-event preparations. These preparations included:

  • Implementing an anti-doping qualification program for athletes and ASP, requiring them to complete learning courses and pass examinations.

  • Forming a professional team of 80 well-trained Doping Control Officers (DCOs) and providing them with systematic pre-event training.

  • Instructing a total of 166 Chaperones through thorough lessons and scenario-based exercises.

  • Conducting rigorous simulation exercises for sample transfer logistics to ensure preparedness for all scenarios.

  • Inspecting all 28 Doping Control Stations in competition venues and the Athletes’ Village to guarantee they met operational requirements.

To ensure smooth doping control coordination, CHINADA held daily operational coordination meetings with ITA, using detailed daily reports and analysis to facilitate immediate problem-solving, plan adjustments, and continuous improvement, to conduct no advance notice testing, ensuring unpredictability and guaranteeing fairness for all participants.

As a NADO that has carried out joint anti-doping programs at international games such as the Beijing Winter Olympics, Hangzhou Asian Games, and Harbin Asian Winter Games, CHINADA was commended by IWGA, ITA and other international organizations for its professionalism, collaborative attitude, and innovative solutions in delivering the Chengdu World Games anti-doping program. CHINADA remains committed to advancing the global mission of clean sport through collaboration and expertise sharing.
